Meet the Grower: Annet Chekwemoi

With International Women’s Day here, we want to introduce Annet Chekwemoi—one of the incredible coffee growers behind your morning cup.
Annet is from Kapchorwa, East Uganda, where coffee isn’t just a crop—it’s a way to empower women, create opportunity, and build community. Through coffee, Annet and the women around her have found economic independence and the ability to support their families for generations to come.
Annet and her husband Tom have been part of our story for over a decade. As directors of Mt Elgon Coffee Corp, they’ve played a key role in helping us source some of the best coffee from Uganda—including the beans used in Titirangi Sunrise.
Through direct trade partnerships, farmers like Annet receive fair prices for their coffee, bypassing middlemen and ensuring that their work is valued. This means better wages, more opportunities, and long-term sustainability for farming communities.
Celebrating Women in Coffee
This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the women who make your coffee possible. From growers like Annet to the women behind the counter and every woman enjoying a cup, their impact on the coffee world is undeniable.
☕ Every cup of Mt Atkinson coffee supports women like Annet, creating real change in communities across Uganda.
